Mr. David BuddenDirector of AdmissionsCrescent School2365 Bayview AvenueToronto ONM2L 1A2

Dear Mr. Budden,

I am writing to express my interest in your school. I am applying for grade 9 and Crescent is my first choice. Currently, I am in grade 8 at The Sterling Hall School. We’ve met briefly at the SHS School Fair and again when I took a tour of Crescent in late October. I am well suited to attend Crescent because I am a smart, creative and well-rounded individual and Crescent has a lot to offer to its students.

I think that I can bring a lot to your school. I am creative and express this creativity through music. I play the bass guitar for at least half an hour every day and I play trombone in music class. I’m interested in rock, hip-hop, jazz and blues. I have also won numerous awards for my proficiency in academics. These include: The Jack Hodges Award for highest academic average (2007), The Rice Cup for Math (2007) and numerous “Proficiency” awards for effort and achievement within one’s class (2005, 2006, 2007). I also participate actively in school sports and was the school’s Fraser Bertram Junior Athlete of the Year in 2006. I’m not easily stressed and am easy-going. Because of these reasons I think I am well suited to attend Crescent.

I’m excited about what Crescent has to offer. It has an excellent academic reputation, the facilities are great and the community seems very nice. I have many friends at Crescent already and many others are applying this year. I live near Crescent so I have many neighbourhood friends that go to Crescent too. Because of this, one of the main reasons that I want to go to Crescent is community. I also like that Crescent offers Advanced Placement (AP) courses. The ability to earn university credits in high school is incredibly useful. It seems that AP offers a lot of flexibility and that it will let me focus on my interests. These are some of the reasons that I think Crescent is well suited to me.

There are many schools that I looked at for grade 9 but none of them seems to fit me as well as Crescent. I enjoyed speaking with you at the Open House and I look forward to my interview with you. I hope this letter has helped you understand more about why I want to come to Crescent.

Sincerely,

Adam Noble-Marks

Temagami poem -- Edited

Wind in my hair and water on my skin
On a seemingly endless trail
One step after another

I must continue and never stop
I must keep momentum
One step after another

My feet are slipping and shoulders are burning
My eyes are watering
One step after another

My heart is beating but my friend is helping
I feel the weight lifting
One step after another

Up the steep hills and down slippery rocks
Triping over thick roots
One step after another

Determination
Excellence
Courage
One step after another

I must be strong and must fight the pain
I must fight the wilderness
One step after another

Together we are strong and will fight the pain
The wilderness is no longer our enemy but our friend
We all march together; One step after another

Alone I am weak
Together we are strong
Together we can survive Temagami

Poem of War

Bullets
Blood
Bodies
Nowhere else is it like this
Where hell meets Earth
Where the devil will grab you
Control you
Turn you into his puppet
Force you to kill your fellow man
And as dead bodies
Soldiers are no different
They are all just soulless pieces of flesh
Never to walk the earth again
Cursed to eternal damnation
For their loved ones
The agony of death will haunt them
For the person that they cherish most
Has been consumed by the devil
They are the ones that played the devil’s game
And lost
War is pointless murder
For when one man falls
Another will take his place
Prepared to die
